Ingredients of the Shake Shack copycat recipe ready to be blended

Do you know why people make copycat recipes? Because the originals are typically good and we want that same delicious condiment on the cheeseburgers we make at home.

Take Shake Shack’s burger sauce. You can search the Internet and find tens, if not hundreds, of copycat recipes for this seemingly simple cheeseburger condiment.

If you look at a Shake Shack cheeseburger and its condiments, you will see that it has many, if not all, of the same ingredients you would likely find at any other cheeseburger establishment; bun, meat, cheese, veg, and sauce.

What sets the Shake Shack burger apart from every other burger on the planet? Is it the slightly sweet and soft potato bun? Is it the blend of meats in their burger patties? Is it the cooking method? How about the American cheese? Maybe it’s the crisp lettuce and the sweet tomato?

Well, it could be any of those things. I’m guessing that it is the sauce that brings the spicy/savory/tangy flavors that bring all of those burger components together.

So, give this recipe a try and see if you think it is close to the original Shake Shack version. Feel free to change it up to make the sauce taste the way you want and use it to make your favorite cheeseburger.

Recommended Tools

Ingredients for Shake Shack Sauce (Copycat)

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp prepared mustard
  • 2 tbsp kosher dill pickles - finely diced
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup fresh parsley - finely chopped

Optional Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper
  • 3 tbsp red onion - finely diced

Directions for making the Shake Shack Sauce

In a bowl, combine all the ingredients and mix using a spoon or a wire whisk. This sauce will be a bit chunky due to the diced pickles and the chopped parsley.

For a creamier Shake Shack copycat sauce, use an immersion blender and blend until sauce is smooth and creamy.

Cover and place container into the refrigerator to allow the flavors to come together. About 30 to 60 minutes.
