Burger Breakdown
The Visit
So I rolled into Chubbies Burgers on Sunday afternoon around 4:00 p.m. All things considered, it was pretty busy here. I could tell that at lunchtime or dinnertime, this place could become packed, standing room only.
Chubbies Burgers has a really cool vibe. I would say that it is a “diner meets industrial” motif. Lime green upholstered benches, white metal chairs and tables, corrugated metal, stainless steel. It is a bright and airy place with windows across the full front of the restaurant. Nice place to hang out and watch the world go by.
The line was short, so it didn't take long for me to order. There are no reservations available at Chubbies. It is a walk-in, order, and sit down kind of restaurant. If it's busy, the line would go out the door as it is not the biggest of places.
Chubbies is definitely a place that you would want to hang out at. The bright colors and the cool vibe are very relaxing. Plus, they keep it remarkably clean and in good condition.
So...tell me about your burgers.
Chubbies is definitely a burger joint. They have four different burgers on the menu along with a variety of other sandwiches.
On this visit, I ordered the Teri Burger. The Tere Burger comes with lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, and teriyaki onion jam. And don't forget the smashburger patty and the ooey gooey melted American cheese. Everything comes sandwiched between a nice soft potato roll.
The burger comes solo, as do all the other sandwiches at Chubbies. The price tag is a little high at $11.25. You're going to want to order a small size of fries to go with the Teri Burger. A half-size of fries is $2.90. You can get a regular size order of fries for $5.80. The regular order of fries is quite big and can be shareable.
Let's See What We Have Here
There's no table service at Chubbies. When your order is ready, they call your name and you go pick it up. Which is fine. Chubbies is not that big of a place, so it's a short walk.
The food comes served on a paper-lined plastic tray. The burgers are served in a paper burger pocket. Fries arrive in a small cardboard holder. Everything looks really good. The presentation is well done; clean, bright, and looking tasty.
Have you tried the bread?
The burger bun on the Tere Burger is a nice pillowy, soft, bun. I'm guessing it's a potato bun and it is absolutely delicious. They do a great job toasting it too. A nice heavy toast on the inside makes it nice and crunchy and flavorful. These buns are top shelf and do a great job holding everything together.
Let's look under the hood of this baby.
If you pull back the top bun you get a nice shot of the sliced tomato, the teriyaki onion jam, the melty cheese, and the Smashburger. The lettuce, which is shredded, is tucked beneath the hamburger patty and the bottom bun. Sandwich comes with just the right amount of mayonnaise, not too much and not too little. Just enough to give it a little bit of flavor and a little bit of moisture. However with the teriyaki onion jam, not much sauce is needed.
The cheese is your basic American cheese. Nice and melty, gooey, and delicious.
Tomatoes are nice and fresh. Lettuce was shredded and crispy.
Since it's a smashburger, you don't get to choose how it is cooked. It comes crispy and cooked all the way through. And they do a good job with the smashburger. It is nice and crispy yet still juicy. They do a great job in the kitchen. The hamburger patty was nice and flavorful and well seasoned.
The teriyaki onion jam is to die for. It is absolutely delicious. They apply a liberal amount of the teriyaki onion jam which provides plenty of flavor to the cheeseburger. Plus, only having lettuce and tomato as the other condiments allows that teriyaki onion jam to shine.
So, who are your your friends here?
The fries are absolutely delicious. Nice and salty. Crispy. Hot. Crunchy on the outside tender on the inside. I could eat these all day long. I think that next time I will order the regular size rather than the half-order.
It's a Wrap
I would give Chubbies a 10 out of 10 would eat here again. The Teri Deluxe burger is a well thought-out and well-executed cheeseburger. All of the flavors, the soft bun, the crispy smashburger patty, crunchy lettuce, melty cheese, teriyaki onion jam, tomatoes, and mayonnaise come together for one delicious sandwich. The simplicity of the ingredients allows everything to work well together and not overpower each other or the flavor of the meat, the cheese, or the teriyaki onion jam. Well done.
Final words...
The Teri Deluxe is a great value. Although it doesn't include fries or a side dish, it is well worth the price tag. The Teri Deluxe, the order of fries, and the soft drink came in under $20.
Now the only thing I would do to the Teri Deluxe is to make it a double smashburger. All those flavors and a double-patty would be cheeseburger heaven.
