Burger Breakdown

The Visit

I was spending a few days up in Tahoe City in the Lake Tahoe region of California and on a nice cold morning I got a hankering for a cheeseburger. So, I thought I would head over to Incline Village Nevada and give Inclined Burgers and Brew a try. I arrived at Inclined Burgers and Brew around lunch time. It was in January so traffic at the restaurant was kind of low. Most people were probably out on the slopes skiing, enjoying the fresh snow and the frosty temperatures. The restaurant has a cool vibe, lots of wood, old time tools, lots of Tahoe posters on the wall. It has kind of that Lodge feeling. They also have an outdoor patio. I imagine that is a little more well used during the summer months. Plenty of windows so you can enjoy the scenery. Incline burgers is counter-service only. You order at the counter and they call your number and you pick it up at the window. No Reservations are needed here. There was no wait this time of day traffic as the traffic in the restaurant was light. Made my order at the counter and grabbed a table. Time to order was relatively fast and the food was hot when it arrived.

So...tell me about your burgers.

I was a bit surprised with the number of Burger choices. Since they call themselves a burger restaurant, I thought they would have quite a few burger choices on the menu. From the looks of it, they really only have two burgers on the menu, the Inclined Burger and the Double Inclined Burger. They offer a veggie burger, but that doesn’t count. They also have a children’s burger and a cheeseburger but I’m not including those in the mix. I ordered the Inclined Burger. I thought that it would be the best choice since I do enjoy cheeseburgers. By default the Inclined Burger comes with a quarter-pound burger patty, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, and a sauce. In January of 2025 the incline Burger comes in at just under $9. You can add bacon avocado fried egg cheese sauce bacon relish or you can get extra cheese or extra protein these prices vary from $2 to $5. Burgers at Inclined Burgers and Brew come solo. So if you want a side dish, you have to pay for it. I ordered a side of garlic fries to go with my cheeseburger.

Since the weather was nice and chilly and I didn’t want my cheeseburger getting cold as I headed back to my hotel, I chose to eat at the restaurant. After I picked up my food at the window, I headed back to my table to enjoy my lunch. The presentation was kind of disappointing. All of their food comes in paper boats giving it that real quick serve look. It would have been nicer if the burger was wrapped in paper rather than sliding all over a paper boat.

Have you tried the bread?

The bread is the first thing that you encounter when enjoying a cheeseburger making it a really important component of the sandwich.

The bun was a standard sesame seeded bun. Unfortunately, it was stale. It appeared to be a standard burger bun that you could pick up at your local warehouse store.

What made it even worse is that the bun was not toasted. The stale bun may have been saved if they would have toasted the bun a bit – both sides.

Let's look under the hood of this baby.

The cheeseburger arrived in a paper boat ready to eat. Unfortunately, after the failure of the bun, it just didn’t get any better. They called it a special sauce but it appeared to me to be only mayonnaise. There was a dollop in the center of the bottom bun and it didn’t do anything to help with the staleness. A nice coast-to-coast application would have been better. They used a large leaf of romaine lettuce that was much bigger than the bun and burger patty so it hung out on all sides. The lettuce was wilted and unappealing. Plus they use the whole piece of romaine lettuce including the big center rib of the leaf. There was a nice slice of tomato on the burger. The grilled onions were tasty. Cheese was melty and covered the hamburger patty nicely. The burger patty was overcooked and dry. They never asked me how I wanted my burger but then again I didn’t offer. I wasn’t impressed with the burger patty at all; it needed a bit more seasoning because it didn’t have much flavor. It was cooked on a griddle.It should have been able to cook in its own fat and remained at least a little juicy. I think they need to do a little bit of work on this burger to bring it up to par.

For the side dish I ordered the garlic fries.Those were delicious. I would definitely order those again. I also recommend getting the large size of garlic fries rather than the small side order of garlic fries. The garlic fries are definitely worth the price
