The Visit

Did I wake up thinking I needed a Green Chile Cheeseburger? Not really. After a morning of exploring Newport Beach, CA, I headed over to Pipeline to to see what they had on the menu.

Pipeline is located right next to the beach. You can order your food, take 50 steps, and be sitting on the beach enjoying the sun and surf.

There was no wait to order at the window.  I walked up, gave the person my order, and then waited for arrival.

This restaurant is quite simple; it is a walk-up service only. It is not much to look at. I would call it a typical "beach-town" burger shack. You know, the kind of place that has been there since you could remember and never changes. But, don't let that fool you. It may not be trending on Tik Tok or on everyones Pinterest board, but the food here is awesome.

So...tell me about your burgers.

Pipeline offers ten different burger choices; eleven if you count the patty melt (saw that one a little late). Choices were tough, and I finally settled on the New Mexico Green Chile Cheeseburger.

The N. M. Green Chile Cheeseburger comes with special sauce (Thousand Island style), shredded lettuce, tomato, American cheese, a nice steakhouse style beef patty, and plenty of green chilis.

The cheeseburger comes solo. I ordered a side of fries and a soft drink. They take off a bit off the pricing when you make it a combo - definitely worth the price. If your are ordering a cheeseburger at Pipeline, make a meal out of it.

At the time of my visit, the burger was a modest $9.50, fries were $5.00, and a medium drink was $3.75.

Let's See What We Have Here

Well, since this is a walk-up window, my order was to go. That is not a problem as there are plenty of park benches across the bike path from Pipeline and plenty of places to sit in the square of Newport Beach Pier.

My cheeseburger and fries arrived in a brown paper bag. Fries were at the bottom of the bag and the burger was wrapped in foil and sitting on top of the fries. Oh, there were "a ton" of fries in that bag. Enough to share with one or two other people.

I took my lunch and headed to a nearby beach wall to enjoy the view and my freshly-cooked cheeseburger.

Have you tried the bread?

The N. M. Green Chile Cheeseburger comes on a standard seeded hamburger bun. Nothing out of the ordinary here. But, it was fresh and had a nice toast on the inside. Straight-foward implementation of a bun.

Let's look under the hood of this baby.

The N. M. Green Chile Cheeseburger came wrapped-up in foil and ready to eat. Perfect for eating at the beach.

The sauce on the cheeseburger was a "thousand island" style sauce. Added some flavor and was not overpowering.

Produce was nice and fresh. Plenty of shredded lettuce which worked in my favor as it captured a lot of the juices that came out of the burger patty. The burger also came with a slice of tomato that was nearly the same diameter as the bun.

Cheese was a nice big slice of melty American cheese which served as the glue for keeping the diced green chiles on the cheeseburger.

At the time of the order, they did not as how I wanted the patty cooked. Chef's choice. The burge patty was fully cooked. Appeared to be cooked on a flat top. Cooked well. Patty was well-seasoned. Nice and juicy and still tender. Not over-cooked. It looks like a pre-made Patty. Not sure if it is hand-formed. But it is still good.

Green chiles were plentiful. Nice and tasty. Adds a little bit of spice. Thousand Islands. Lettuce, tomato , and pickles give it a nice flavor. Plenty of shredded lettuce bumping-up the crunch factor.

So, who are your your friends here?

I opted for the side of fries. They were well-cooked. Plenty of salt. Could eat those all day. Orderd an ice-cold drink. Made a combo out of my meal.

It's a Wrap

Nice thing they give you plenty of napkins. The N.M. Green Chile Cheeseburger is saucy and juicy! This is a really good cheeseburger. I like it. All flavors come together well.

Addition of veg gives a nice fresh flavor. Adds to the green chili flavor.

I can definitely eat another one of those.

This is a delicious burger. After day on the beach, sinking your teeth into a New Mexico Green Chile Cheeseburger would be amazing. Come out of the water. A little bit sunburned. A little bit tan covered with sand and salt water. This cheeseburger would be awesome!

Final words...

Great value for a cheeseburger served-up in Newport Beach, CA. Fries are worth the price and are definitely shareable.

I know that I will be back at Pipeline on my next visit to Southern California.
