See for Yourself - Badmash Burger

Burger Breakdown
So...tell me about your burgers.
You definitely want to try the Badmash Burger.
To begin with, this is a falafel joint - Falafel Corner. But that doesn't stop them from putting a few burgers on their menu board. In fact, Falafel Corner in Davis, CA has 5 different styles of burgers/cheeseburgers to choose from. And just a side note, this isn't my first burger rodeo here. I have been to Falafel Corner quite a few times and have tried a variety of items from their menu.
Today, I ordered the Badmash Burger. This monster of a double-cheeseburger comes with two mashed (not smashed) burger patties, cheddar cheese, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, thousand island dressing, mayo, bacon, and an egg.
The Badmash Burger comes solo (no sides) for just under $15. If you want fries or rings, you are looking at another $5 to $6+ depending on what you order.
Let's See What We Have Here
I enjoyed my lunch and the Badmash Burger at Falafel Corner. No table service here. Order at the counter, pick up at the counter. Falafel Corner is not a large place so we are only talking about 5 to 10 steps from table to counter. It is an easy stroll to pick up your order.
Lunch arrived on a plastic tray with a Falafel Corner branded paper liner. No frills and with the Badmash Burger was looking absolutely thicc and delicious. This was a monster of a burger; two patties, double cheese, bacon, egg, and a variety of toppings all together making a HUGE statement.
Have you tried the bread?
The bun for the Badmash Burger was a traditional naked burger bun (not seeded). There was plenty of bun to do the job; big thick and able to hold all the condiments, meat and cheese without breaking down. NIce, fresh, and tasty. One of those buns you wouldn't mind picking up and eating as a snack.
What brought this cheeseburger bun up a level was the toasting method. Most restaurant will toast the inside of the bun to warm the bun, to bring back a little more freshness, and to bring out more flavor. Here at Falafel Corner, they toast both the inside and the outside of the bun. To me, this is a pro-level move that adds a tremendous amount of flavor to the bun and this double-cheeseburger sandwich.
Let's look under the hood of this baby.
The cheeseburger came fully assembled and ready to eat. I was excited to take a peek under the hood to see what this baby is made of.
Well, we obviously have a well-done bun. On the inside of the bottom bun, we have a nice layer of Thousand Island dressing and on the top bun, a nice drizzle of mayonnaies. Now there was a hidden surprise in this cheeseburger, between the produce and the main show, there is another layer of mayonnaise-based sauce that brings a bit of heat to the show. This special sauce is not mentioned on the menu. The spice in this special layer of sauce catches you a bit off-guard and is certainly a nice addition to the cheeseburger.
Produce is amazing. Between the bottom bun and patties, there is a layer of shredded iceberg lettuce. This adds a cool crunch to the sandwich and helps hold onto some of the juices that come out of the burger patties.
This double-cheeseburger comes with two types of cheese, Swiss and cheddar. Both were nicely melted and added that creamy component to the Badmash Burger.
On top of the burgers we have a fried egg, bacon, that layer of special sauce with a bit of heat, a couple rings of fresh onion, a nice tomato slice and dill pickles.
All of this was crowned with the top of the well-toasted burger bun.
All the components of the Badmash Buger were excellent. Everything was fresh and crunchy. Nice sized tomato. Onion sliced thin and broken into rings; not a slab of onion which would overwhelm the rest of the burger. The pickles were standard pre-packed pickles, not homemade. However, the pickles did their job by bringing a bit of acid to cut through the richness of all the other components of this burger. Shredded iceberg lettuce is nice touch and one of my favorites on cheeseburgers...nice amount. All the condiments worked together. Everything was in perfect proportion.
The burger patties were amazing! Nice grind with a good bite. Well cooked. When taking a bite of just the patty, you could taste the salt.
When ordering, I was not asked how i wanted the burger patties cooked. The burger patty was cooked to medium-well. This was fine as the burger was nice and juicy and tender. I went through a stack of napkins while I enjoyed this meal.
The Badmash Burger is cooked on a flattop. Plenty of flavor and plenty of juices. Smelled fantastic as it came to the table. Well-seasoned too. You could taste the salt, but it was not over-salty.
So, who are your friends here?
The Badmash Burger doesn't come with a side by default. You can upgrade and make it a meal. I opted for some curly fries. They were nothing special. You could get the same at another burger joint or in your grocers freezer. Personally, this double-cheeseburger is plenty for lunch or dinner. You really don't need a side dish. I would skip the sides unless your are going to lunch with a friend and would like to share a side.
It's a Wrap
This Badmash Burger is bada**. This is one of those burgers you need to have every couple of months just to remind yourself that it wasn't a dream.
I like the fact that they call it a mashburger and don't fully smash it like the current trends. This burger was mashed just enough on the grill to give it a nice maillard reaction but still thick enough to be nice and juicy inside. I could eat these burger patties by themselves or just between a burger bun with no condiments or sauces. Nice flavor, nice and tender. Nice and juicy. Nicely seasoned. Compliments to the chef.
So this burger tipped the scales at about $15. A little pricey for me. I would like to see this burger at around $13 price point. However, this burger was awesome and was certainly worth the cost. Really good. I would order one again in a heartbeat and that would be the only thing that I would order because after this you don't need french friesor any side dish. The Badbash Burger and a soft drink. Perfect lunch. In fact it was so good that I think I will take a nap and dream about lunch.
